Over 200,000 foreign tourists visit Isfahan in 2 months: Official

Isfahan, May 27, IRNA – During the first two months of the current Iranian year (March 20 to May 21, 2017) 208,810 foreign tourists have visited Isfahan, said on Saturday the Managing Director of Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization (ICHTO) of Isfahan.

Fereydoon Allah-Yari told IRNA that “The number of foreign tourists arrived in Isfahan over the period establishes an unprecedented record after the 1979 Islamic Revolution.”

Allah-Yari added that most of the foreign tourists were from France, Germany, Italy, Belgium, Spain, The Netherlands, England, Austria, China, and Japan.

Most of the tourists had said that they had chosen Isfahan on the advice of their friends who had already visited the city’s historical and tourist attractions in a peaceful and safe atmosphere, he said.

“Despite the presidential and city council elections and with campaigns underway in Isfahan, foreign tourists never stopped to arrive in the city and many of them were here on the day of the elections,” the official said.

“Many of them were shocked by the huge turnout and said that it was the first time they had seen realization of democracy in the Middle East to such an extent,” Allay-Yari said.

Isfahan has 22,000 historical monuments, 1,850 of which are nationally and four internationally registered, including Naqsh-e Jahan Square, Chehel Sotoun Palace, Kashan Fin Garden, and Jameh Mosque of Esfahan.
