Iran, Kyrgyzstan to develop banking cooperation

Tehran, Dec 24, IRNA – The Governor of the Central Bank of Iran (CBI) Valiollah Seif and Chairman of the National Bank of the Kyrgyz Republic Tolkunbek Abdygulov reviewed ways of boosting bilateral cooperation.

According to the CBI public relations office, the meeting took place during the visit of Iran's President Hassan Rouhani to Kyrgyzstan when Seif and Abdygulov held talks on developing banking ties in a bid to boost trade exchange volume.

The two officials also considered using Iran and Kyrgyz national currencies.

Outlining Iran's post-JCPOA attitudes and approaches related to its Northern neighboring countries, especially Kyrgyzstan, the Iranian official stressed the need for speedy signing of a banking memorandum of understanding between the Central Banks of the countries to address the concerns of businessmen from both countries and help solve their problems.

Abdygulov too said that he is planning a trip to Iran in accompany with a delegation comprising of governors of Kyrgyz banks with the purpose of starting cooperation with Iranian banks.

President Hassan Rouhani heading the Iranian delegation visited the Kyrgyz capital, Bishkek, on December 22.
