Tehran-Yerevan comprehensive cooperation document signed

Tehran, Dec 5, IRNA – Energy Minister Hamid Chitchian announced on Monday that Iran and Armenia had signed a comprehensive cooperation document on Monday.

He also announced conclusion of an agreement by the two sides to enhance the capacity for electricity exchange fourfold in a near future.
At the end of the 14th Iran-Armenia Joint Economic Commission session in Tehran on Monday, Chitchian told reporters that the document envisions cooperation in the fields of energy, electricity exchange, natural gas, Aras River environmental, banking and insurance, trade and economy.
He added that based on the deal, which is signed on the eve of the visit of President Rouhani to Armenia, Iran will establish free trade zone in Armenian territory.
The 14th joint economic commission meeting kicked off here on Monday morning in presence of Energy Minister Hamid Chitchian and Armenian Minister of Energy, Infrastructures and Natural Resources Ashot Manukyan.
Chitchian told the meeting that construction of an electrical transmission tower for the third line, which is to increase electricity exchange capacity from 300 to 1200 megawatts, has started and hopefully by support of both countries' officials it will be operational in the near future.
Manukyan also met with the First Vice-President Es'haq Jahangiri here on Monday.
