Export of agro products catapults

TEHRAN, Feb. 18 (MNA) – Iran’s deputy agriculture minister said exports of agricultural products grew by 27.45% and 4.3% in weight and value respectively during the first 10 months of current Iranian calendar year (began March 20, 2016).

Abdolmahdi Bakhshandeh, the Iranian Deputy Agriculture Minister for Planning and Economic Affairs, said in the first ten months of the current Iranian year, a total of 4.838 million tons of agriculture products were exported to global markets.

He said the exported agro products in the meantime were worth 4.659 million dollars adding “the agricultural sector accounts for 4.74% of weight and 13.24% of total worth of Iran’s non-oil exports.”

Bakhshandeh emphasized that the aggregate total of Iran’s non-oil export amounts to 102 million and 41 thousand tons worth 35.186 billion dollars asserting “trade balance for the agriculture sector remains negative though its figure of 2.472 billion dollars indicated an improvement of 308 million dollars as compared with the corresponding 10-month period in the previous year.”

The official stated that, in the meantime, the highest export share as regards weight pertained to agriculture sector with 63.5% followed by horticultural sector (20.8%) as well as livestock and poultry sector (13.84%).

As per value, the lion’s share in export was for horticultural sector with 47.1% followed by agricultural (23.22%) and livestock and poultry (23%) sectors, deputy agriculture minister noted.

He enumerated major export products including fresh or chilled potatoes and tomatoes, fresh apples, onions and shallots saying “in the ten-month period, imports volume in agro sector plunged by 3.62 and 1.6 per cent in weight and value respectively as compared with the similar period last year.”

Bakhshandeh said major imported items were livestock corn, soybeans, soybean meal and other solid inclusions in addition to barney with the exception of seeds.
