Tehran, Dushanbe to build new electric transmission line

TEHRAN, Nov. 09 (MNA) – The 11th meeting of Iran-Tajikistan Joint Commission decided on construction of Sangtuda-2 dam and economic assessment of a 500-kilowatt power transmission line.

At the closing ceremony of the Joint Commission, Iran’s Energy Minister Hamid Chitchian and his Tajik counterpart Osman Ali Osmanzadeh inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in energy and water sectors.

Chitchian noted that Iran attaches great importance to promotion of ties with Tajikistan in view of existing cultural, religious and linguistic commonalities.

“Bilateral economic relations between Iran and Tajikistan should enhance the level of political relations between the two countries,” he underlined.

Iran’s energy minister went on to maintain that any improvement in Tajikistan equals an achievement for Iran expressing hope that Tehran will be able to play an effective role in this regard.

He said that Iran attaches great importance to promotion of relations with the neighboring friend countries including Tajikistan; “Tehran and Dushanbe inked several cooperation documents in fields of banking, custom, trade, energy, culture, education, transportation and media on Tuesday.”

Chitchian said a deadline for paying debts of Iranian contractors who are building Sangtuda-2 Hydroelectric Power Plant in Tajikistan has been fixed.

Tajikistan Energy Minister Osman Ali Osmanzadeh praised the Iranian companies' activities in Tajikistan voicing hope for development of multilateral ties between Iran and Tajikistan in all fields.
