Iran envoy calls for using Russian waterways for promoting trade

Moscow, Sept 1, IRNA – Iranian ambassador to Moscow has called on Russia to let Iranian vessels in the Caspian Sea to have access to the Russian waterways in order to further trade between the two nations.

Mehdi Sanai has recently visited the city of Volgograd; the Russian Industrial hub situated on the western bank of the Volga River.

During his visit he asked Russian officials in the region to let Iranian vessels use the Russian waterways to ease transfer of commodities between Iran and Russia and promote trade between the two nations.

'The key point of the recent talks between Iran, the Republic of Azerbaijan and Russia in Baku was promotion of transport and transit of goods and launching the North-South Transport Corridor,' Sanai said.

By developing mutual ties on transport and transit of goods and using waterways to ease the process, the level of trade exchanges between Iran and Russia is going to rise significantly, he said.
