Iran's petrochemical output capacity up by 4.5m tons in 3 years

Tehran, Aug 24, IRNA – Iran's petrochemical output capacity rose up by 4.5 million tons over the past three years under the incumbent government by bringing eight petrochemical units to operation.

The petrochemical output capacity showed considerable growth by the rise in delivery of feedstock and launching of new units.

National Petrochemical Company (NPC) said that production of ethane gas, which serves as feedstock for petrochemical units, makes up for 17 percent growth.

The NPC Director in charge of Production Control Ali-Mohammad Bosaqzadeh said that since 2013, when the incumbent government took office, eight petrochemical projects have been put into operation in Ilam, Lorestan, Mahabad, Takhte Jamshid, Kavian Phase II, Shiraz Phase III, Urmia Sulfuric Acid unit and the EG/EO Pearl Unit, thus bringing the petrochemical production capacity to 4,500,000 tons.

Bosaqzadeh predicted that Iran's petrochemical production capacity will reach 54,600,000 tons by the end of the current Iranian year (March 20, 2017) on the schedule.
