Qazvin-Rasht-Astara railway can play crucial role in North–South Corridor

Tehran, Aug 8, IRNA – Managing Director of Islamic Republic of Iran Railways referred to Qazvin-Rasht-Astara railway as one of the main points to connect North–South Transport Corridor, saying that finalizing this railway will facilitate products transit to European countries.

Referring to the importance of activating North–South Transport Corridor and the role of railway, Mohsen Pour Seyyed Aghaie reiterated that concurrent with President Rouhani's trip to Baku, an MoU on trade and railway cooperation was signed between Iran and Azerbaijan.

On railway role, he said that North–South Transport Corridor is a path to transfer products from Korea, China, Singapore and India to Europe and Russia.

Prior to Iran, Russia and Azerbaijan trilateral summit to consult on activating North–South Transport Corridor, reviving the mentioned corridor has been emphasized in different events such as Iran, Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan trilateral summit in Incheh Borun and Iran, Afghanistan and India in Tehran.

President Hassan Rouhani arrived in Baku, the Azerbaijan Republic, for a two-day visit on August 7.

During the visit, President Rouhani is to attend trilateral talks among Iran, Russia and Azerbaijan, confer with his Russian and Azeri counterparts on expansion of trilateral cooperation in commerce, energy, telecommunications, environment, fight against terrorism, transportation and transit of goods.
