Iran sells over 15mn tons of cement overseas

A new report says Iran exported more than 15 million tons of locally produced cement over the last Persian calendar year (ended March 19).

According to the official IRNA news agency citing export figures, the country sold more than 25 percent of some 60 million tons of locally produced cement last year on the international market. The figure, however, reveals a downward trend from 2014 when Iran ranked fourth on the global list of cement and clinker producers with an output of 70 million tons. Iran’s cement production has over the past decade or so seen fluctuations, soaring at times and spiraling downward at others. The country seeks to increase its cement production from the current nominal capacity to 120 million tons within the next 10 years. China leads global producers with its roughly 55 percent share of the world’s cement output of around four billion tons. Iran exports cement to some two dozen countries including Iraq, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kuwait, Pakistan, Qatar, Turkey, the UAE, Georgia, Oman, India, and China.
