 Iran FM, Uzbek president discuss bilateral ties

Tehran, Nov 10, IRNA – Iranian foreign minister and president of Uzbekistan in a meeting on Friday explored avenues for development of all-out ties between the two countries.

In their meeting, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev exchanged views on boosting of economic and scientific cooperation between Tehran and Tashkent.

The two officials discussed cooperation in the field of energy and fighting terrorism.

They also conferred on cooperation in transit field and welcomed trilateral railway cooperation among Iran, Uzbekistan and Afghanistan.

Zarif and Mirziyoyev agreed on convention of the two countries' joint economic commission meeting in December.

Iranian foreign minister arrived in Samarkand, the second largest city in Uzbekistan on Thursday afternoon to attend the International Conference on Security and Sustainable Development in Central Asia, held there.

The conference themed 'Central Asia: Shared past and common future, cooperation for sustainable development and mutual prosperity' kicked off in Samarkand on Friday.

Prior to his visit to Uzbekistan, Zarif arrived in Dushanbe, Tajikistan, on Wednesday and met with the country's officials.
