Iran to uplift dairy, fishery exports to Russia
TEHRAN, Aug. 29 (MNA) – ICCIMA deputy head said, in view of existing capacities, Iran can turn into a supplier of dairy and fishery products to Russia and other Eurasian countries.
Deputy Head of Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture (ICCIMA) for International Affairs Mohammadreza Karbasi made the remarks at a meeting with Commercial attaché of the Russian Federation to Iran Rostam Murat Aliev.
The Iranian side pointed to a recent meeting between ICCIMA Head Gholamhossein Shafei and Russian Ambassador to Iran Levan Dzhagaryan saying “issues raised at the joint session need to be followed up and efforts need to be made to remove obstacles to development of trade ties.”
He emphasized the need to hold Iran-Russia Joint Economic Commission stating that the necessary steps are being taken for the session to convene in the near future.
Referring to talks on Iran’s membership at the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), Karbasi said the process will benefit both Iran and the Eurasian countries.
He noted that fishery and poultry products marked proper venues for expansion of cooperation between Tehran and Moscow given Iran’s excellent capacities in these areas especially as regards shrimp farming.
“Joint investment companies can also be formed between Iranian and Russian traders,” he continued.
At the end of his remarks, ICCIMA deputy head said other areas for expansion of trade turnover comprised various types of vegetables, citrus as well as dairy products.
Commercial attaché of the Russian Federation to Iran Rostam Murat Aliev, for his part, stressed Iran’s jointing the EAEU saying “multilateral negotiations on Iran’s membership have been underway for several years.”
On chicken imports, the official reminded that his country had almost reached self-sufficiency as only a small amount of the product was purchased annually.
He however touched upon Iran’s great potentials in manufacturing high-quality dairy products noting “presently, majority of Russia’s demand for milk power is being supplied by Belarus.”
Murat Aliev later called for removing existing obstacles in the transportation sector which are hindering facile delivery of Iranian products to Russian markets.
“Necessary infrastructure for bilateral cooperation between Iran and Russia need to be promoted especially in areas of packaging and transportation,” he underscored.
