Tehran, S Korea ink 2 MoUs in power industry

Managing Director of Iran's Power Generation, Distribution and Transfer Company (TAVANIR) Arash Kordi and Executive Vice-President for Overseas Operation of Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) Hyang-Reol Lyu signed contracts in areas of Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) and Energy Storage Systems (ESS). Both sides admitted that the contracts indicated fruitful outcome of efforts made by expert delegations over several months.

Also at the MoU-signing ceremony, Iran’s Kordi noted that the deals were exchanged in areas of CDM and ESS with the former pertaining to South Korea’s technical assistance in implementing the project for collection, treatment and reuse of SF6 gas in Iran.

The official noted that SF6 gas is frequently used as insulator in high-voltage electrical equipment and using the gas in world electric industry is under international protocols and now the Korean side is to share its know-how with Iran in this concern. As per the cooperation agreement, SF6 purification devices will be imported form Korea and installed in various parts of Iran. As such, the Iranian electricity industry is taking a huge leap in using the technology inside the country with no costs as well as in facilitating transfer of the know-how.

Concerning the second MoU, KEPCO is to launch energy saving system in Iran and implement a probationary project that in case of success, the system could be used in high-rise building, hospitals. Therefore, in addition to supplying electricity to huge building in critical moments, the new systems can reduce peak load at peak hours.

KEPCO vice-president, for his part at the session, expressed hope that collaborations with Tavanir will be elevated to higher levels.
