Iran Mulls Projects to Turn CO2 Emission at Petchem Plants into Products

A senior petrochemical official says plans are under way for construction of two units in Assalouyeh, south of Iran, for production of ammonia and urea from the CO2 produced by the operating petrochemical facilities in the region.

Ali Mohammad Bossaqzadeh, director of production control at National Petrochemical Company (NPC), said two plants for production of ammonia (7,300tons/year) and a urea unit with 9,000 tons of annual capacity.

He further said that a European company has indicated readiness to join the two environment-saving projects.

The units are being developed for turning CO2, hydrogen and nitrogen emitted from adjacent petrochemical facilities in Assalouyeh II zone into value-added items.

The official also expressed optimism that the Research Center of Petroleum Industry (RIPI) will support the two projects scientifically.
