Rising urban population in the future will hit intercity roads with a huge volume of traffic, rendering present road infrastructure incapable of handling this high volume of traffic. Railway, with higher transport capacity and lower energy consumption, will be the best option to meet the challenge of traffic jams. Active in two normal and express intercity train sectors, MAPNA is capable of implementing these major branches of railway projects under an EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) scheme. With Iran’s transportation fleet aging, MAPNA is also active in renewing the intercity transport fleet. In 2014, the Group signed an agreement with the Islamic Republic of Iran’s Railway to carry out electrification of the 900 kilometer-long Tehran-Mashhad railway. Upon completion of the project, electric trains will be able to run through the route with a speed of 200 km/h, reducing the travel time a mere 6 hours.
