Slip masterbatches
Slip masterbatches gradually migrate to the surface of the product and crystallize because of its tendency to surface air rather than the tendency for the polymer carrier. This layer of crystal acts as a lubricant layer and consequently reduces the coefficient of friction between the respective surfaces. Since the migration of slip masterbatches is a time-dependent phenomenon, the performance of these additives is determined by measuring the slip rate of one film over another and consequently by calculating the friction coefficient as a function of time after extrusion. The intensity of the migration of the slip masterbatches to the surface depends on the molecular weight of the slip agent and the polymer matrix as well as the concentration of the component.
