MAPNA Synchronizes Seventh Unit of Rumaila Power Plant to Iraqi Power Grid

MAPNA Combined Cycle Power Plants Construction and Development Company (aka MD-2), the subsidiary in charge of the project, is carrying out the mega project.

So far, MD-2 has synchronized a total number of 105 units with an aggregate capacity of 16,199 megawatts inside and outside Iran.

MAPNA Group is responsible for design, procurement, transportation, installation, and commissioning of the 3000-MW power plant, located on the outskirts of Basra in southern Iraq, in ISO conditions.

The conglomerate also supervises the civil construction operation carried out by the client, Shamara Holding Group.

The megaproject is defined in four phases: The first phase of the project includes construction of six gas-fueled units that run on MAP2B turbines, homegrown turbines designed and manufactured by MAPNA.

An efficiency of 34.6 percent has been set for the units, to be increased to 36 percent twelve months after receiving the provisional accreditation certificate (PAC).

Phase two of the project includes construction of three E-type steam cycles, HRSGs (without supplementary firing), ACC cooling system, and BOP (balance of plant).

Phase three of the Rumaila Power Plant project also includes construction of six gas-fired units running on MAPNA Group's MAP2B turbines.

The initial efficiency of Phase three simple cycles stands at 34.6 percent. The figure will reach 36 percent one year after the provisional delivery.

Phase four of the project includes construction of three E-type steam cycles, HRSGs (without supplementary firing), ACC cooling system, and BOP (balance of plant).

Upon completion, the plant will include six 500-MW combined cycle power blocks in Rumaila, in vicinity of Basra, Iraq's second largest city.
