$22m handicrafts exported from Tehran

Tehran, July 24, IRNA – Handicrafts worth of $22,919,681 were exported from Tehran province in the last Iranian calendar year (ended March 21), said deputy head of provincial Department of Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism.

Shahram Merrikhi told IRNA Sunday that the exports last year were made to Republic of Azerbaijan, South Africa, Austria, Germany, Jordan, Armenia, Uzbekistan and Spain.

Exported items included Zilou, Gelim, potteries, ceramics, metal works, silverware and traditional and decorative glasses, he said.

The official further noted that handicrafts exports are projected to increase by 10 and 15 percent this year compared to the figure for the year earlier.

Exports of jewelry and precious items were one of the department's priorities in the current year, he said, noting that major portion of the items last year were sold to Kuwait and UAE.

Promoting exports is one of serious programs of Tehran Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Department, he said.
